A Passion for Book Designing

I design extraordinary photo book constructions, portfolios, and hybrid content books. I’m a self-styled "pixel surgeon", turning two dimensional imagery into intimate, very touchable works in three dimensions. It’s all about layers of never repeated meaning and story. An ethnic event, a journey, a poetry collection, a bridal album, a family history.

Hybrid manuscripts of image and text are just the best. I’ve worked in this medium since 1993, when a seminal book won my first hybrid content award. Images must not overshadow words, nor vice versa. If they intertwine, enfolding meaning hand in hand, the reader experiences a new present, equal to the original. A sort of sculptural time travel.

Comment by an advance reader of my award winning book Fragments of Spirit: 60 Years: Recollections of a Photographer: Taos Pueblo, the Region and its Arts. She said she “…loved the images for their quality, action and faces, but having read the text, began to look again at the images in an entirely new and intimately deeper way because she now understood what I was feeling at the time.”
